Eight Finnish companies nominated for Red Herring’s Top 100 Global award

Eight Finnish technology companies have been nominated for Red Herring’s Top 100 Global award, a prestigious recognition for...this year’s most audacious and far reaching private technology companies in the world. The Finnish candidates include Mendor, Microtask, Eniram, Footbalance, Beneq, Aditux, Sendansee and Rightware. The winners of the awards will be announced in Los Angeles on December 7, 2011. One of the nominees, Microtask, is innovating crowdsource technology in the area of document processing – combining machine and human intelligence to automate difficult or costly business processes.

According to a recent JP Morgan study, one sheet of paper costs companies more than $1 per year to maintain, and I predict that getting rid of paper will be a boom industry of the decade. Typing in heaps of forms and faxes requires costly manual labour, and traditional outsourcing has confidentiality risks, said Ville Miettinen, CEO of Microtask.

The Red Herring editorial team has selected companies demonstrating the most innovative technologies and business models originating from over 1000 companies from over 40 nations. 2011 has confirmed the sector's vibrant activity and its resilience to widespread economic problems. Mendor has performed exceptionally in its field and strongly deserves to be singled out as one of the finalists, stated Alex Vieux, Chairman of Red Herring.

Mendor is designing and developing advanced diabetes management products, and has launched a revolutionary, discreet, easy to use, portable all-in-one blood glucose meter and web-based software application for the daily management of diabetes. Another nominee, Eniram, is developing technology that assists shipping industry to reduce fuel consumption, protect environment and increase the knowledge of vessel and fleet performance.

Beneq is a supplier of production and research equipment for advanced thin film coatings, and serves mainly cleantech and renewable energy fields and are at the forefront of applications development in solar power technology, energy conservation and flexible electronics.

Sendandsee is a privately held Finnish software and services corporation, and Rightware  prides itself on being the world’s leading provider of graphical user interface solution called Kanzi® . Footbalance, in collaboration with health care and sport professionals, is developing custom moulded insoles and computer-aided analysis tools. Aditux, formerly Red Solution Finland, is a solutions provider using NFC technology for example for Smart Map, events, tracing and tracking and mobile marketing applications.
