New mobile network for Norway

Tele2 and Network Norway are now in the process of building a third nationwide mobile phone network in Norway. It comes in addition to the two networks operated by Telenor and NetCom. The new network, Mobile Norway, is expected to cover 75 per cent of Norway's population by next year, Aftenposten writes. At present, mobile phone operators in Norway must lease capacity from Telenor and NetCom. Tele2 and Network Norway are of the opinion that they pay too much for these services, and have decided to jointly spend NOK 2 billion on building a third network for mobile services. The network will be a high quality and cost efficient GSM/2G and UMTS/3G network. Mobile Norway holds a 2G-License (GSM) and a 3G-Licence (UMTS) for speech and mobile broadband.
