Sweden: Increased railway investment
Swedish government will increase rail investment with another SEK 800 million in 2011. This since train traffic has increased sharply, while harsh winters have put the traffic on the test. But both experts and the opposition think it is a too small amount. After two unusually severe winters, Swedes have had to get used to an increasing number of cancellations and delays. "I think it is clear that we have had two very severe winters, and that we have witnessed a considerable increase in passenger traffic in Sweden and we have many years of deferred maintenance and operational needs," Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said to news agency TT after a press conference about the Swedish train traffic yesterday.
The SEK 800 millions is, according to the government, equivalent to an increase of the investments with 15 per cent.
